Birthday Party Checklist

Planning a child’s birthday party can be a lot of fun. There are so many options out there that it can be overwhelming at first. When planning a kids birthday party, we suggest starting with a checklist. At Playland Skate Center we think that a party checklist can make the planning much smoother.

Perhaps the most important element in planning a birthday party is choosing the location. At Playland Skate Center, we make that part as easy as possible. Our family fun center has recently been chosen as the Best Party Place by the Austin Chronicle. Location is an easy one to check off the list when it comes to hosting a party at Playland Skate Center!

Themes Make a Difference

The next thing on your checklist should be determining a theme. Before anything can be made or bought you have to decide what the theme of your child’s party will be. For a child’s first birthday, parents tend to rely mostly on a color theme and the number “1.” As kids get older they start to like certain characters or TV shows. If they are old enough to tell you what they like that’s great, but if not, then just choose a theme based off of their favorite toy or cartoon.

Examples of themes by age-

  • Ages 2-4: Pirates, princesses, dinosaurs, Elmo, Sesame Street, tea party
  • Ages 5-7: Harry Potter, pizza, circus, dress up, cars,
  • Ages 8-10: roller skating, movies, academic interests

After determining a theme, decorations for the party should be next. You can choose to buy decorations from a party store or you can make your own. You can find so many cool decoration ideas online at Pinterest and other creative sites. Making your own decorations is a fun idea because often times kids can join in and help make some of the decorations for their party. Outside decorations are permitted at Playland Skate Center, so live up the theme!

I’m hungry!” At Playland Skate Center, you can wow your kiddos with fun themed menu ideas at their birthday party because you are welcome to bring in your own cake and food. If your child is having a Lego themed party, why not have a Lego cake?!

Spooktacular Skating

We’re celebrating National Roller Skating month during October, but this coming Tuesday we’re celebrating all things spooky for our adult goblins, ghosts, and ghouls! Don’t miss out on our adult only Halloween Party at Playland Skate Center in Austin!

Adult Night Halloween Party-October 27Austin, TX

Every Tuesday, we’ve got a dedicated group of skaters that join us for our 18+ adult night in Austin. Prior to Halloween, our Tuesday skate night is taking place on October 27th. We couldn’t resist the temptation to add a little fright to our skate night since it is only a matter of days before Halloween. Events begin at 8:30pm and there will be cash prizes for the ugliest, scariest, and funniest costumes!

Halloween-October 31

While we welcome skaters on the day of Halloween, we also realize that many of our younger skaters have other plans that night. For that reason we are closing early to allow everyone plenty of time to get where they need to be for their traditional trick-or-treating rituals. Please note that Playland Skate Center will be closing at 6pm on Saturday, October 31. Enjoy the night and be safe!

School Skate Nights Equal Successful Fundraisers

Research shows that teachers spend an average of $500 of their own money buying classroom supplies. Keep in mind that this is an average that was compiled from data collected, and in some cases teachers spend much more and much less. Regardless, it remains that many teachers, schools, and classrooms find creative ways to supplement their budgets as they attempt to provide materials. Austin, TX fundraiser

Our family owned roller skating rink has been a fixture in the community for 40 years and at Playland Skate Center, we’re proud to help support learning opportunities and fill this financial shortfall for students and teachers throughout the Austin community. With fundraising opportunities, and through providing free skating passes for students, we’re happy to give back to the community.

Austin FundraisingRecently, we were able to celebrate two successful fundraising initiatives with local elementary schools in Austin. One was a combination back to school celebration and fundraiser. Regardless of how these fundraising initiatives are coordinated, one thing is for sure, when we see kids and families out on the roller skating rink having fun and getting exercise, it makes our day!

As if that’s not enough, giving back with a large check makes our fundraiser events even better! We are able to write out a super sized check to our partners after their events, and in turn they get to decide where those funds go!

When Gullet Elementary celebrated with a back to school night fundraiser and celebration, we were able to present them with a check in the amount of $1,119! The success they saw in this fundraiser was as a result of the over 300 people that showed up for their event!

We were also able to partner with Austin Discovery School in a recent fundraiser. This initiative allowed us to present them with a check for $829.20.

If you, your classroom, school, group, organization, or club are searching for a creative and fun way to raise necessary funds, consider the success of these recent fall fundraisers. We’re more than happy to partner with community groups in the greater Austin area in order to help make a difference. Spread the word and bring your friends because we’re hosting our annual Columbus Day Skate!
