Staying fit through the holidays doesn’t have to be a challenge. The following three steps will help you get through it and still maintain your health. It’s important to remember that the holidays offer a time for celebration. You can indulge yourself a little and still remain in control of your fitness goals.
Worrying about your diet over the holidays will only accomplish two things. It will help you fail and it will make you feel miserable. Pick the battles you think will be the most daunting and address them first. Let the rest take care of themselves. It won’t hurt you to try a new dessert. Allowing yourself the opportunity to relax will make it easier to get through the holidays if you also have faith in yourself when it comes to sticking to your goals.
Create the Perfect Plan
Create the perfect plan of attack and stick to it. Always remember that food is not the reason for a family to gather during the holidays. It’s part of the day, but not all of it. You don’t have to eat at every party you attend. Instead of taking an entire plate of food, choose a few of the snacks or finger foods. Remember to eat your biggest meal of the day as close to noon or mid-afternoon as possible.
Expect a Few Detours
Expect a few detours on the road to success. If you eat more than you planned at one party, go light on the food at the next. A detour is only a problem if you let it get the best of you. In some cases, your willpower and focus will have to be extra strong to get you through Christmas dinner. Learn to adapt and go with the flow.
