Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween is a fun time of year for everyone. Parents get to dress your kids up as a cute prince or princess, and your kids get to become the hero of their dreams, not to mention the sugar rush after a night of trick-or-treating! Playland Skate Center wants to make sure that all of the families in Austin, TX are safe this Halloween, so we’ve got 3 safety tips you should keep in mind when you leave the house for trick-or-treating.

Halloween Safety Tips#1 Light Them Up

On Halloween night, the streets of your neighborhood will be filled with lots of little ghosts and goblins, but they will still be sharing the road with motorists. Make sure that your children know to stay to the side of the road when a car passes by. Also, to ensure that motorists can see your children, light them up with something flashy! Whether it is a prop in their costume that lights up, or one of the safety lights that are available from many local retailers, adding a light to your child’s costume is the easiest way to make sure they get seen.

#2 Have a Buddy

If your kids are under the age of 12, they should be accompanied by an adult for trick-or-treating. If they are over the age of 12, your children should still go out in groups, and preferably only visit the homes of people you know  in your neighborhood.

#3 Do Something Different

If you want your kids to enjoy Halloween, but stay away from the inherent dangers of walking the streets at dark and asking for candy from potential strangers, bring them to a different Halloween themed event, such as Playland Skate Center’s Halloween party! Tonight we are hosting our all ages Halloween party at 8:30 pm. There will be cash prizes for the ugliest, scariest, and funniest looking costumes. This will be a family atmosphere that you can enjoy with your kids in a safe environment.

Celebrate National Roller Skating Month!

National Roller Skating MonthOctober means pumpkins, Halloween parties, and lots of candy but what else does it mean? National Roller Skating Month! Join Playland Skate Center in celebrating this month that honors safe, family oriented fun and fitness!

National Roller Skating Month was established in 1983 by President Ronald Regan. He declared this month to remind families of the benefits of roller skating including a safe place to have fun with your family while getting fit, too!

When everyone is so plugged in all of the time  – either to a phone, tablet, computer, or TV – escaping it all and enjoying quality time with your family and friends is essential. Roller skating is a way to bring everyone together for an evening of exciting games, fitness, and learning a new sport and encouraging everyone to disconnect with technology, and connect with each other. Nothing brings people together like learning something new.

October is a great time for roller skating as we are sure many of you are tired of the hot, Austin, TX weather. When the temperatures won’t seem to come down out of the 80s,we are keeping it cool here in Playland Skate Center. Here are great ideas to get you and your family involved in roller skating:

  • Bring a friend with you who has never seen you skate and rent them a pair of roller skates and help them learn. Everyone loves learning something new and skating is easy!
  • Bring the family to take a break from the stress of school and work and watch each other enjoy themselves out on the rink.
  • Join us for our Halloween parties at the end of this month. We’ve got one for each age group!

Playland Skate Center hopes that you take part of our favorite month of the year – National Roller Skating Month! Check out our schedule to stay up to day on the days and nights that we are open this month.
