Kids Skate Free at Playland!

As the seasons change, please check with KidsSkateFree.com website to verify the hours that the passes are accepted.

There used to be a time when parents flashed the flood lights to get their kids to come inside for dinner, now they have to cut the breaker to the electricity in their house to get their kids to disconnect! Exercise is important, and in a day and age when kids know better how to use the remote controls than they do how to throw a ball or ride their bikes exercise is low on their totem pole of importance. At Playland Skate Center, we want to encourage kids to unplug and unwind with some family time here at the skate center!

KidsSkateFree.com

Playland Skate Center is part of a nationwide program called KidsSkateFree.com. The program is  designed to promote being and staying active for young children by giving them free passes to skating rinks! Once you signup, you will receive two free passes (for up to four children) to use each week at Playland. If you have your own skates then the sessions are completely free! If you need to rent roller blades or roller skates it is only $3. We offer the program to children 12 and under, but the whole family can come skate for additional admission fees!

Roller skating is a fun way to get exercise, control weight gain, and improve balance and flexibility. Its easy to learn so even your youngest children can come go for a lap around the rink! We hope to see you and your family here at Playland Skate Center in Austin, TX soon, so sign up for your free skate passes today!

Fundraiser with Pillow Elementary

Last week we hosted a fundraiser for Pillow Elementary and were proud to present them with a check for $824.00 that they raised to help support their school!

Last week, Pillow Elementary rented out Playland Skate Center for a private party fundraiser that they invited all of their students, family, friends, and faculty to come skate at! With only a $5 admission fee, Pillow had over 300 people show up to support them for an evening of roller skating fun. They had access to all of our great amenities including roller skate rentals, a full service snack bar, music, lights, fog, and games. We kept a tab on the number of skaters that came in the door and handled all of the money collection, so all they had to do was come in and have a great time!

Are You Interested in Hosting a Fundraiser?Pillow Elementary Fundrasier

Hosting a fundraiser at Playland is easy – all you have to do is call and maker a reservation! We have Sunday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights all month available for your private party. When you reserve the rink, it is only you and the people you invite to skate with you, you don’t have to worry about the general public coming in to interrupt. You get the rink from 6:30-8:30p  for all the fun you can fit into those two hours. The rink rental is $300 so the first 60 skaters that come in the door will cover that for you. Anything you make from there is split on a percentage based on how many people show up to support you. The next step is just to promote your event on facebook, twitter, in newsletters, emails, on your school calendar – whatever it takes to get as many people in the door as you can so you can make as much money for your organization as possible!

Ready to schedule a roller skate fundraiser now? Give us a call at 512-452-1901 or fill out our contact form and we will get back to you as soon as we can! We can’t wait to see you at Playland Skate Center in Austin, TX!

Skate Like George Washington

Well – we don’t actually know if George Washington was a roller skater, but you can dress up like him with a wig and a top hat and we will be sure to take your picture on President’s Day! Schools may be closed but we are most certainly going to be open from 12-6pm. And just so you know why you’re going to be off from school here’s a little info about President’s Day:

President’s Day was established by the 90th Congress in 1968 when they decided to make a standard calendar ofPresident's Day federal Monday holidays. The law was put into action in 1971 and moved three existing holidays to Mondays and establish President’s Day as a day to celebrate all of the Presidents that have made lasting impacts on America. Originally, people were trying to celebrate George Washington’s birthday on February 11th and Abraham Lincoln’s on February 12th so rather than celebrating each President’s birthday individually, President’s Day came into being to celebrate everyone on the same day.

Today, President’s Day goes somewhat unnoticed by most except for the excitement of having a nice 3 day weekend but some communities and parks celebrate the holiday with stage reenactments and pageants to honor those that have helped our great nation progress!

Mark your calendars now and come spend a great day of fun – skating like George Washington would skate on his birthday – with us on Presidents Day!
